Muskrat Fur & Leather Aviator Hat

Inspired by the hats bomber pilots wore in WWII, the aviator style hat is best known as a fur trim "ear flap hat". Aviator hats feature fur on the interior of the ear flaps and around the back of the neck. They also have a large fur flap brim on the front of the hat.

Aviator hats are unisex hats so they can be enjoyed by both men and women. The ear flaps can be worn down for warmth and style or attached at the back of the hat or top of the crown when not needed.

A special feature of the Aviator hat is that the main ear flaps have a secondary small fur ear flap located directly over the ear. These smaller ear flaps can be worn up or down. They serve two purposes. When worn down, they add extra warmth and protection to the ears. When worn up they allow for better hearing.

The Muskrat can be found within Canada, the United States and parts of Mexico, they were introduced to Europe in the early 20th century as a means for fur. Musquash is an alternate Canadian and British name for muskrat. The muskrat has a short, thick under fur that is waterproof with a glossy over layer of longer fur. Muskrat varies in color, from light brown to black. The fur consists of two layers, helping protect the muskrat from cold water; this means that the fur is extremely durable to all weather conditions. Muskrat fur is very warm and their fur very popular during the winter months all over North America and Europe. Muskrat is commonly seen today in Canadian made fur hats.
