Similar to how cow hides are used for leather, rabbits are ranch-raised in Europe for food purposes and the pelts are used for fur. The Raccoons distinguishing tail alternates black with tan rings and its body guard hairs are long and silver with black tips. Their fur is very durable if taken care of properly and a number of Raccoon coats from the 1920's are still around today. Raccoon fur is often used today for fur trims such as collars and cuffs.

Finn Raccoons, also known as Asiatic raccoons were introduced by the fur industry during the 20th century to the former USSR, Scandinavia and France. The fur of the Finn Raccoon is soft and dense with long dorsal guard hairs. Finn Raccoon fur is often used for garments such as collars and other fur accessories.
